PLEASE USE HEADPHONES! The bigger the better.
“Upular” - Pogo
Like 3D film makes you want to reach out and touch something, 3D sound (binaural sound) makes you want to turn your head to see where it’s coming from!
“Star Witness” - Neko Case
Italian Alps - BAM!
“You Are My Sunshine” - Norman Blake
“I don’t like little kids. I don’t like ‘em, I just…”
- Dallas Winston, The Outsiders (Coppola, 1983)
Cimitero dei Cappuccini (under Santa Maria della Concezione)
DO IT. Over 4,000 bodies. Just make sure you have shoulders and knees covered, camera put away, and have a Euro for a donation - the custodian is a stickler.
Via Vittorio Veneto, 27 Rome
“There’s No Other” - The Crystals
I LOVE THE FONTS IN ITALIAN SIGNS.
Maybe because they’re so retro…but I feel like you don’t often see signage like this in the States. The small things make an impact.
“Submarine” - The Drums
Crociera aerea del decennale 1933
Okay, so he was a founding member of the Grand Council of Fascism but…
Italo Balbo was Italy’s Marshal of the Air Force and led two transatlantic flights of flying boats during the 1930s. One of these flew from Rome to the World’s Fair “Century of Progress” being held in Chicago in 1933. The fleet of 24 flying boats landed in Lake Michigan near the exposition. Before continuing the round-trip flight back to Rome it made a second American stop in in New York City.
(Embarrassing?) Chicago History: Mussolini donated a Roman column from Ostia to the city in honor of the flight’s success. It’s still on Lake Shore path south of Soldier Field. Seventh Street, known since as Balbo Drive, was named in honor of the General Commander of the Fascist militia. There is some recent debate about renaming the street…
— adj 1. of, denoting, or formed in the second and most recent epoch of the Quaternary period, which began 10 000 years ago at the end of the Pleistocene
I’ve been watching a lot of old Italian films lately so bear with me…
IS THIS A MISSONI DRESS?
Actress Angela Minervini in La Visita (Antonio Pietrangeli, 1963) seems to be wearing very early Missoni. Missoni was founded in 1953 and their first collection made for Italian department store Rinascente came out in the next year. First Paris runway show was in 1967.
…so it’s possible right? Would anyone would be knocking off the Missoni pattern before it was even a well-known label?
