Maybe because they’re so retro…but I feel like you don’t often see signage like this in the States. The small things make an impact.

Italo Balbo was Italy’s Marshal of the Air Force and led two transatlantic flights of flying boats during the 1930s. One of these flew from Rome to the World’s Fair “Century of Progress” being held in Chicago in 1933. The fleet of 24 flying boats landed in Lake Michigan near the exposition. Before continuing the round-trip flight back to Rome it made a second American stop in in New York City.
(Embarrassing?) Chicago History: Mussolini donated a Roman column from Ostia to the city in honor of the flight’s success. It’s still on Lake Shore path south of Soldier Field. Seventh Street, known since as Balbo Drive, was named in honor of the General Commander of the Fascist militia. There is some recent debate about renaming the street…

I’ve been watching a lot of old Italian films lately so bear with me…
IS THIS A MISSONI DRESS?
Actress Angela Minervini in La Visita (Antonio Pietrangeli, 1963) seems to be wearing very early Missoni. Missoni was founded in 1953 and their first collection made for Italian department store Rinascente came out in the next year. First Paris runway show was in 1967.
…so it’s possible right? Would anyone would be knocking off the Missoni pattern before it was even a well-known label?
